Former Hooters Tour Member Micheel Wins PGA Championship

Rochester, NY…The Hooters Tour does it again. Shaun Micheel became the third former member of the Hooters Tour to win a major title this year when he captured the 85th PGA Championship Sunday. Micheel outlasted Hooters alum Chad Campbell, Ernie Els and Tim Clark to win his first ever PGA Tour event.

"I love this golf course," Micheel said. "Not just because I won but because I felt like, if you make a mistake off the tee, you could get the ball back in play and get it on the green. The greens were large enough, and they were receptive enough that they would accept nice shots into the green."

Micheel, who was ranked No. 169 in the world entering the season's fourth major, produced another shocker on the order of Ben Curtis' British Open victory. The 34-year-old from Memphis became the fourth first-time major champion of the season.

Micheel played on the Hooters Tour in 1992, 1993, and 1995. In 1993 he was 27th on the money list and had five top tens. His best ever finish on the Hooters Tour was a T4 in Louisville, KY in 1993.
