Maybin Earns First Win

The Base Camp Realty-Chesdin Landing Open
Presented by Pearson Dealerships and Michelob Ultra
Lake Chesdin Golf Club
June 30-July 3, 2005

Chesterfield, VA (July 3, 2005)…Gareth Maybin (Ballyclare, Northern Ireland) fired a three-under par 69 Sunday in the final round of The Base Camp Realty-Chesdin Landing Open presented by Pearson Dealerships and Michelob Ultra over the 6767 yard, par 72 Lake Chesdin Golf Club to earn his first career Hooters Tour Title.

“This feels awesome, there will be a lot of happy people back home in Ireland,” said the 24 year-old Maybin. “My ten sponsors will be partying it up tonight back in Ballyclare at the Five Corners Pub.”

The South Alabama graduate fired four straight rounds in the sixties and finished at seventeen-under par 271 for the week and held off a charge from Colombia’s Camilo Benedetti, who finished all alone in 2nd place at fifteen-under par 283.

“I got off to a good start this week with the 66, and I usually always play well on the weekend, so I just played my normal game and I putted great this week also,” said Maybin after collecting his winner’s check.

Nick Rousey (Pensacola, FL), the tour’s leading money winner, closed with a one-under par 71 to finish all alone in third place at thirteen-under 275.

Maybin collects a career best $31,000 for his first career win, while Benedetti takes home $15,353 and Rousey takes home $10,206.

“I will probably buy myself a motorcycle with this money,” said Mobile, Alabama resident. “Plus I have to pay for my mom and my girlfriend to fly into Mobile on Monday.”

Richmond’s Ted Brown led the Virginia contingent in the Base Camp Realty-Chesdin Landing Open after carding a four day total of 282, six-under par. Blackstone’s Cameron Yancey (Blackstone) and Billy Judah (Chesapeake) finished the tournament with four day totals of three-under par 285, while Jay Woodson (Powhatan) closed with a one-over 73 and finished with a four day total of 293, five-over par.

The Hooters Tour takes three weeks off, but will be back in action July 25-31 in Owasso, Oklahoma at Bailey Ranch Golf Club for The Michelob Ultra Classic.
