MOBLEY DRIVES PAST
COMPETITION
Mesquite,
Nevada- It took 15
years, but former NGA Hooters Tour member Dave Mobley finally won The Re/Max
World Long Drive Championship October 23rd at the driving range of
The Palms Golf Course.
Mobley, a
39-year-old golf professional from Huntersville, NC, hit a 377-yard drive in
difficult conditions (The Mesquite area was bombarded by rainfall earlier in the
week, saturating the ground) to defeat 2002 World Champion Carl Wolter of
Nesquahoning, PA.
The former
Troy State golfer spent the 1995-97 seasons on the Hooters Tour but has only
played in a handful of tournaments the last couple of seasons while he has been
focusing playing on the Long Drivers Association Tour full-time. Mobley made the
cut in 17 of his 51 starts on the Hooters Tour and earned a little over $20,000.
Mobley’s best ever finish came in 2001, when he tied for second place in
Decatur, AL.
The Re/Max
World Long Drive Championship will be shown on ESPN on Christmas Day.
The NGA/Hooters
Tour is the 3rd largest men’s 72-hole professional golf tour in
the country behind the PGA and Nationwide (Formerly Buy.com) Tours, and boasts
alumni like 2003 PGA Champion Shaun Micheel, 2003 British Open winner Ben
Curtis, two time U.S. Open winner Lee Janzen, British Open and PGA Champion John
Daly, as well as British Open winner Tom Lehman, 2003 US Open winner Jim Furyk,
PGA Champion David Toms, 2003 Tour Championship Winner Chad Campbell, 2004
BellSouth Classic winner Zach Johnson, 2004 Reno Tahoe Open winner Vaughn Taylor
and TPC winner Craig Perks to name just a
few. All told, the NGA/Hooters Tour’s alumni have an incredible 9 “Majors”
to their credit. The NGA/Hooters Tour
has helped more than 100 professionals acquire their PGA, Senior PGA, and
Nationwide Tour cards. In fact, 38% of the players that earned their 2004 PGA
Tour card, and 33% of the players that earned full exempt status on the
Nationwide Tour started their careers on the NGA/Hooters
Tour.
The
NGA/Hooters Professional Golf Tour
also owns and operates a Central Florida Winter Series, a Senior Series, as well
as a West Coast Summer Series in the Southern California desert.
