Blogs >> Who Needs NASCAR When Hooters Tour Hits Concord
Due to a Monday qualifier in Valdosta it’s taken me a while to get around to writing this weeks’ blog. In no way do I apologize for that, but the demand has been startling, so here it is; your weekly update from the road. The tour has made it’s way to Concord, N.C, and the Cabarrus CC just down the road from the impressive Lowe’s Motor Speedway.
I could make this blog about NASCAR and its dominance in this area, however my knowledge of the subject extends to about 20 viewings of Talladega Nights, so I’ll just do you all a favor and tell you about a restaurant I have visited this week. That restaurant is called Bikinis.
Now, as a matter of loyalty I must point out that Hooters is a fine eating establishment. I thought the premise of the place (cheap fried food, beer and girls in small shirts) was total genius. I can see why the company has spawned an airline, a hotel and professional golf and fishing tours. Having said that Bikinis may have one-upped our favorite sponsor. Not only does Bikinis have fried food and beer, as the name suggest it is all served to you by girls wearing less than Pamela Anderson on Baywatch patrol. In a way it was disconcerting: I wasn’t sure weather to order my food or slip our waitress a dollar bill. How this place is not bigger than the Beatles I do not know. But I do know that Bikinis is located off I-85 at exit 45. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.
I also have to throw out an early nomination for shot of the year, passed on to me by Ian Parnaby. Last week Parns was playing with Hooters Tour stalwart Todd Bailey and told me of a shot Bailey hit on the 17th hole at Royal Lakes last week. Apparently his ball had come to rest on the lip of the fairway bunker on the right hand side of the hole. Taking his normal stance would mean the ball was sitting at eye level, so after about 10 minutes of deliberation (get on him Harlow!) Bails simply flipped his 8 iron over and hit a 130-yard left-handed shot with a little draw that checked on the green and rolled to 6 feet. Going completely against all logic Bails brushed the putt in for a 3.
If anybody has a better story to tell than that one, find me and let me know. I fear this one will take some beating though.
