The Michelob Ultra Classic
Black Bear Golf Club
March 16-19, 2006
Eustis, Florida (March 19, 2006)…Scott Piercy (Las Vegas, NV) fired a three-under par 69 in the final round of the Michelob Ultra Classic over the 7002 yard, par 72 Black Bear Golf Club to win his first ever Hooters Tour tournament.“It feels great to finally get this monkey off my back,” said the 27-year old Piercy. “I have been playing out here for five years now and I have always been one round short of winning an event.”
The former San Diego State golfer fired rounds of 70-70-65-69 for a four day total of fourteen-under par 274 and a one stroke lead over Jered Gusso (Savage, MN), Jeff Corr (Longwood, FL) and Chris Devlin (Birmingham, AL), including three straight birdies down the stretch to pull out the win.
“On 16 we all made birdie and then on 17 he made (Gusso) birdie from 30 feet and I had to make my 20 footer to tie,” said Piercy. “Coming into 18 he missed his putt and I had ten to twelve feet for the win and when it was halfway there I knew I had the victory.
“My confidence is up now since I finished tied for 15th in Phoenix (PGA Tour event) earlier this year, I didn’t change much in my game during the off season, I just changed the way I approach things and they are working out pretty well so far.”
Piercy earns $21,483 for his first win, while Corr, Gusso, and Devlin earn $7,827.33 for finishing in second place.
Carterville, Georgia resident Travis Nance and current Nationwide Tour member Travis Perkins (Worthington, OH) finished tied for fifth at eleven-under par for the tournament, three behind Piercy.
The Hooters Tour heads to PerdidoBay Golf Club in Pensacola, Florida next week for the PGM Classic.
