Pearland, TX (August 3, 2008)…Matthew Harmon (Grand Rapids, MI) fired a closing round three-under par 69 over the 7354 yard, par 72 Golfcrest Country Club to capture the NGA Hooters Texas Honing Open by seven strokes over Hank Kim (Jonesboro, GA).Harmon, who changed putters on Tuesday prior to the start of the tournament, carded rounds of 68-69-67-69 for a 72 hole total of 273, fifteen-under par for his second professional victory, and his first on the Hooters Tour. With the win, Harmon collects $33,566.
“I’ve been hitting the ball great for the last month and a half, but I just was not making any putts, said Harmon. “I changed putters this week I seemed to make all the putts I really needed to make going down the stretch.”
Hank Kim (Jonesboro, GA) posted a final round one-under par 71, for a four day total of 280, eight-under par, to finish alone in second place and earn a check worth $16,783.
Early round leaders, Martin Flores (Mansfield, TX) and Jeff Corr (Longwood, FL) finished tied for third place another stroke back, at 281, seven-under par.
Local favorite Mike McCaffrey (Sulpher Springs, TX), who now resides in Houston, carded a final round 71, for a 72-hole total of four-under par 284, to finish in a tie for sixth place.
The next stop for the Hooters Golf Tour will be August 11-17, in Dothan, Alabama for the $200,000 Dothan Classic.
