Villegas Takes TOUR Championship
Former Hooters Tour Winner Wins Second Straight Title
Atlanta, GA (September 28, 2008)…With a par putt on the first playoff hole Sunday, former Hooters Tour winner Camilo Villegas collected his second straight PGA TOUR victory at The TOUR Championship (Halleran/Getty Images).The former Florida golfer fired rounds of 72-66-69-66 for a four day total of seven-under par 273 and a spot in a playoff with Sergio Garcia. After Garcia missed the par 3 18th green with his first two shots, Villegas was able to two putt for the win after starting the day trailing by five shots.
"My caddie looked at me straight in the eyes and he goes, 'You ain't going to give up on me. We can still do it.' He was probably the only one believing that at that point," Villegas said.
With the win, Villegas collected $1,260,000 and finished second in the FEDEX Cup Points Standings behind Vijay Singh.
