The IndianLakes Resort Classic
IndianLakes Resort-Blackhawk Trace Course
May 11-14, 2006
Bloomingdale, IL (May 14, 2006)…Michael Letzig (Richmond, MO) fired a seven-under par 65 in Sunday’s second and final round of the Indian Lakes Resort Classic over the 6966 yard, par 72 Blackhawk Trace Course at Indian Lakes Resort to garner his first career Hooters Tour title.“The Hooters Tour is the best mini-tour out there and to win out here this week is a big boost to my confidence after playing well in the Nationwide Tour’s Virginia Beach event last week,” said the 26 year old Letzig.
“I have won 3 three round events and now a two round event but I will take it,” said the former New Mexico golfer. “I would have liked to have won a four round event this week but unfortunately the weather wouldn’t cooperate with us.”
The third year Hooters Tour member fired rounds of 69-65 for a two day total of ten-under par 134 and a one stroke win over a group of golfers. The group included local standout Kevin Streelman (Winfield, IL), Benjamin McClung (Jacksonville, FL), Andrew Morse (Chestnut Hill, MA) and John Koskinen (St. Petersburg, FL).
“I told my day while I was packing up this afternoon that I needed to worry about Kevin because he is a local player and has played well at this event the past couple of years,” said Letzig. “I just felt like if I could get past that hurdle, I had a good shot of holding on for the win, but it was a lot of waiting.”
Letzig collects a career best $24,000 for his first career title on the Hooters Tour, while the group in second earned $8,045 for their efforts.
“I am hoping that confidence I have built over the past couple of weeks will help tomorrow when I try and qualify for the US Open.” “I want to get in and make the cut so that I can get exempt to the final stage of PGA Q-school.”
Guy Sciortino (Melrose Park, IL) heads up the remainder of the Illinois contingent to make the cut of one-under par 143 finishing at six-under par 138 for two days. Crystal Lake’s Joe Affrunti finished one behind at five-under 139, while Greenville’s Kyle Vassel and Evanston’s T.C. Ford fired two day totals of four-under par 140 to finish tied for 31st. Brett Melton (Monee) and Curtis Malm (Aurora) round out the local contingent to make the cut finishing at three-under par 141 for the event.
The Hooters Tour heads east to Granger, IN and Knollwood CC for the Lasalle Bank Pro Golf Classic May 15-21, 2006 next week.
