Ponte Vedra Beach, FL (May 10, 2010) Coming into this past week’s Players Championship former NGA Hooters Tour winner Chris Stroud was on a roll collecting his best two finishes of the year in his previous two events (T-21 and T-29) after missing the cut in six of his first nine events of the season. (NGA Hooters Tour Alum Chris Stroud pictured left)Stroud, a former standout at Lamar University in Texas, opened with rounds of 70 and 69 and then matched the low round of the day on Saturday with a six-under par 66 to move up the leader board into a tie at seventh place at eleven-under par. After a final round two-over par 74 Stroud finished at nine-under par 279 and a T-10, his best finish in 2010. Stroud pocketed $237,500 for his tenth place finish and moved from 154th on the money list to 99th with over $392,000 in earnings.
Stroud wasn’t the only former NGA Hooters Tour player to find success in Ponte Vedra Beach on the weekend as he was joined in the top 25 by John Rollins (T-13), Scott Verplank (T-13), Chris Couch (t-17), Zach Johnson (T-22) and Sean O’Hair (T-22).
While these alumni all earned top 25 finishes for the week, a handful of alumni also had successful weekends in Florida. This list includes Bob Estes (T-26), Steve Flesch (T-32), Jerry Kelly (T-39), James Nitties (T-39), Kris Blanks (T-45), Spencer Levin (T-45), Jim Furyk (T-47), John Merrick (T-47), Boo Weekley (T-56), J.J. Henry (t-58), George McNeill (T-58), Brett Quigley (T-58), Jason Bohn (T-64), Roland Thatcher (T-64) and Ben Curtis (T-66).
