Longs, SC…2007 Masters Champion Zach Johnson, 2003 US Open winner Jim Furyk and 2009 British Open winner Stewart Cink are three of twelve former NGA Hooters Tour members to gain exempt status for the 110th US Open Championship, scheduled from June 14-20, 2010 at The Pebble Beach Golf Links in Pebble Beach, California.
 
This impressive list includes PGA Championship winner David Toms, Brian Gay, Jerry Kelly, Kevin Na, Sean O’Hair, John Rollins, Heath Slocum, Scott Verplank and Camilo Villegas.
 
While these players were exempt from Local and Sectional Qualifying into the Championship based on their PGA Tour performances and world rankings, a group of former and current Hooters Tour members fought through Qualifiers to earn one of the remaining spots.
 
Current NGA Hooters Tour players Travis Hampshire, Blaine Peffley, Daniel McCarthy, Jon Curran and Eric Axley all qualified for the US Open via sectional qualifiers on Tuesday, June 7th. This group joined former NGA Hooters Tour players Gareth Maybin, Gary Woodland, Kent Jones, Ty Tryon, Jim Herman, Brendon de Jonge, Ben Curtis, Tom Lehman, John Mallinger, Derek Lamely, Erik Compton, Shaun Micheel, J.J. Henry, Deane Pappas and Chris Stroud.
 
All told, 32 current or former NGA Hooters Tour players will be in the field for the 110th US Open Championship, June 14-20, 2010 at The Pebble Beach Golf Links in Pebble Beach, California.
 
The NGA/Hooters Tour is the 3rd largest men’s 72-hole professional golf tour in the country behind the PGA and Nationwide Tours, and boasts alumni like 2009 British Open Champion Stewart Cink, 2007 Masters Champion Zach Johnson, 2003 PGA Champion Shaun Micheel, 2003 British Open winner Ben Curtis, 2003 US Open winner Jim Furyk, two time U.S. Open winner Lee Janzen, British Open and PGA Champion John Daly, as well as British Open winner Tom Lehman, PGA Champion David Toms, 2003 Tour Championship Winner Chad Campbell, 2004 & 2005 Reno Tahoe Open winner Vaughn Taylor and TPC winner Craig Perks to name just a few. All told, the NGA/Hooters Tour’s alumni have an incredible 11 “Majors” to their credit. The NGA/Hooters Tour has helped more than 100 professionals acquire their PGA, Senior PGA, and Nationwide Tour cards. In fact, 48% of the players that earned their 2010 PGA Tour card, and 53% of the players that earned full exempt status on the Nationwide Tour started their careers on the NGA/Hooters Tour.
