Duluth, GA (October 8, 2006)…Travis Nance (Cartersville, GA) concluded his magical week with a two-under par 70 in the final round of The Naturally Fresh Foods Points Tour Championship over the 6923 yard, par 72 St. Marlo Country Club and take his second win of the season.“This week came out of no where,” said the twenty-nine year old Nance. “I was hitting the ball really bad the past few tournaments and ended up pulling out of the event two weeks ago, so it’s a big surprise for me.
I got a phone call lesson from my teacher Mark Blackburn earlier this week and I basically had my AT&T call to the bullpen to get me back going.”
Nance, a winner earlier this year in Pensacola, Florida, fired rounds of 64-66-66-70 for a four day total of twenty-two-under par 266 and a four stroke lead over Justin Smith (Franklin, PA). Smith who lost in a playoff in the last event in Valdosta, GA, closed with a six-under par 66 to finish all alone in second place at eighteen-under par 270.
Emmett Turner (Augusta, GA) fired a three-under par 69 Sunday to finish all alone in third place at seventeen-under par 271, while Ted Potter, the tour’s leading money winner, finished in fourth place after carding a final round six-under par 66.
With the win, Nance collects a season best $41,958 for his second career Hooters Tour title, while Smith takes home $20,945 for his second straight second place finish.
Hoots: With his fourth place finish in the final event of the year, Ted Potter earns the 2006 Player of The Year Award. FormerAugustaState golfer Emmett Turner (Augusta, GA) takes home Rookie of The Year honors with his tenth place finish on the money list. Tommy Biershenk (Boiling Springs, SC) garners Most Improved, while Aaron Clark (Harrison, AR) takes the Golf Achievement award.
