Orlando, Fla.—December 15, 2010—Stuart Anderson, of Longwood, Fla., fired a second round 65 to edge Michael Buttacavoli by two shots and win the sixth Bridgestone Winter Series event of the season.
With the tournament shortened to 36 holes due to weather, Anderson, a former Illinois State University Red Bird, finished at 7-under 137, bettering the 5-under 139 turned in by Buttacavoli, of Miami Beach, Fla., at Shingle Creek Golf Resort.
Although it is easy to point at the 65 in the second round as the reason for victory, Anderson’s first round 72 was equally as impressive, considering the first round was played in very windy conditions in which only five players broke par.
“Seventy-two was a great round; all I could think was get it in the hole as quick as possible,” Anderson said of his first round. “The 65 was easy, compared to the first round.
The win will give Anderson just under $12,000 for the week and propel him into the top 10, a goal that he set for himself at the beginning of the season.
“I saw names like Potter, Corr and Oppenheim playing down here for years and know they are great players,” said the former Canadian tour member about his decision to play the Bridgestone Winter Series this year. “So I set a goal to come down here and finish top 10 to get exempt status for the Pro Series in order to fill my schedule for next summer.”
Garrett Medeiros, of Longwood, Fla., and Michael Schachner, of Libertyville, Ill., finished tied for third with total scores of 4- under-par 140. Each will take home $4,481 for their efforts. Anderson will receive $11,990, while Buttacavoli grabbed a $5,979 payday.
The Bridgestone Winter Series would like to thank the Shingle Creek staff and volunteers for their help. A special thanks to Jamie Howie (Tournament Coordinator) and Jason Johns (Head of Golf Sales) Rickey Craig (Superintendent), Dave Scott (Director of Golf) and David Smiley (Head Professional).
This was the sixth event of the 2010 Bridgestone Winter Series. The next event will be played January 4-January 6, 2011 at Southern Dunes Golf Club in Orlando, Fla.
