Auburn, AL (April 15, 2007)…Kevin Streelman (Winfield, IL) grinded out a one-under par 71 in Sunday’s final round of the NGA Hooters Auburn-Opelika Classic over the 7090 yard, par 72 Auburn Links @ Mill Creek to win his first ever Hooters Tour title.
 
The Duke grad fired rounds of  69-66-66-71 for a four day total of sixteen-under par 272 and a one stroke victory over second and third round leader Matt Every (Daytona Beach, FL). Every closed with two-over par 74 for a four day total of fifteen-under par 273.
 
“It was extremely difficult out there today (the weather conditions),” said Streelman after his round. “Being from Chicago helped me out today because back home people would be wearing shorts in fifty degree weather.”
 
“The conditions out there today were ones where you couldn’t force anything, you had to be patient and take what you were given.”
 
Adam Babb (Arlington, TX) also closed with a one-under par 71 and finished all alone in third place at twelve-under par.
 
Former Auburn golfer Jay Mundy (Augusta, GA) headed up the Auburn contingent in this week’s Auburn-Opelika Classic after firing a four day total of ten-under par 278. Lee Williams (AlexanderCity) closed with a disappointing five-over par 77 and finished at three-under par 285, while former teammate Kevin Haefner finished the week at two-over par 290.
 
Streelman collects a Hooters Tour best $33,566 for his first career Hooters Tour title, while Every takes his second straight runner-up finish for a season best $16,543.
 
“This win goes out to my late college coach Rod Myers,” said an emotional Streelman. “He passed away last week and I missed his memorial on Tuesday of this week but I felt like he was with me today.”
 
The Hooters Tour heads to Columbia, South Carolina next week for the Capital Chevrolet Classic @ Woodcreek Farms.
