FLYNN RALLIES LATE TO WIN IN MYRTLE BEACH
Little River, SC...Michael Flynn drained a 3 foot birdie putt on 18 to avoid
a playoff with Todd Bailey and won the NGA/Hooters Tours Hooters Classic at Bay
Tree Plantation by 1 stroke at 19-under in Little River, SC.
"Before I hit my 2nd shot on 18 I had no idea if I needed a birdie to win," said
Flynn. "I just knew I needed to get it close."
While Flynn was making his late charge thanks to birdies on 3 of his final 4
holes, the wheels came off on Bailey's otherwise superb round.
Following two short weather delay's, Bailey birdied hole #16 to drop to 8-under
on the day & 20-under for the tournament. Flynn, playing in the group behind
Bailey, was 3 strokes back at 17-under.
Unfortunatley for Bailey, untimely bogey's on 17 and 18 proved to be the
difference.
"I just gave it away," said a disgusted Bailey following his round of 6-under
66.
Meanwhile Flynn, finished with a final round 5-under 67, and a winners check
for $22,000.
This is the 30 year old from Ft. Worth, Texas 3rd career win on the NGA/Hooters
Tour. His two others came in 1999.
"It's been a while," said Flynn. "Even though I played well out here last year
I didn't win. There's no better feeling than walking down 18 on Sunday
knowing you've got a chance to win."
Next up for the NGA/Hooters Tour will be the Chester's San Antonio Classic
at Olympia Hills Golf & Confernce Center in San Antonio, Texas July 16-22,
2001.
Total purse for the Chester's San Antonio Classic will be $125,000.
