Matthews, N.C...For the second time in four tournaments this year on the
NGA Hooters Tour, Chad Campbell has won. He started the fourth round
with a two shot lead over Bobby Elliott of Plano, Texas. After making a
birdie on the par 4, 2nd hole, he pushed his lead to three strokes. On
the 7th hole, Elliott made a triple-bogey to fall six shots behind. "I
hit the ball into the trees on the left side of the fairway," said
Elliott. "It was unfortunate because there was a large gallery of people
over there and we just couldn't find the ball. From there I was just
trying to get my round back to even (par). I had no chance of catching
Chad after that hole."
Elliott finished his round with a 5-over par 76 and tied D.J. Brigman
for 4th place at 12-under par. Campbell finished the tournament at
23-under par, 7 strokes better than Scott Hebert. "I was just putting
well all week," said Campbell, who only had 2 bogeys all week. "It was
a little harder playing with a big lead because I tend to get lazy,
like on 16 where I 3 putted."
Mark Wilson finished alone in third place at 13-under par.
Next week the NGA/Hooters Tour moves to Dawsonville, Georgia for a
tournament at the Gold Creek Resort.
