Southaven, MS...Travis Womble of Nashville, Tennessee carded a final round
3 under 69 to win the Gold Strike Casino Classic by 5 shots over Justin
Bolli. "I'm tickled to death," said the 26 year old Womble. "I went in
with a pretty conservative game plan and stuck to it. I didn't have many
birdie chances today but when I did I made them."
This is Womble's first ever NGA/Hooters Tour victory. He takes home a
check for $22,000. Meanwhile Bolli is no stranger to making a run on
Sundays. Today he fired a 7 under 65, but could get no closer than 4
strokes from the lead. "I knew that unless Travis had a major hiccup that
I had no chance," said the 24 year old from Roswell, Georgia. "I don't
like to follow other players scores. All I could do was shoot as low as
possible." Earlier in the year Bolli came from behind to win in a playoff
at North Augusta. After Bolli, David Howser and D.J. Brigman tied for 3rd
place at 19-under. Wombles 4 day total of 25 under was one short of Scott
Hebert's record of 26 under turned in at last years Gold Strike Casino
Classic in Southaven.
The NGA/Hooters Tour now moves to Greystone Golf Club in Cabot, Arkansas
(Little Rock) for The Arkansas Michelob Light Classic April 23-29, 2001.
